The Diocese of the Northern Territory is committed to safe ministries. This means that Diocesan parishes, ministries and entities should be person-valuing, harm-free and respectful environments for ministry to God’s glory.
As a Diocese, we are committed to our pastoral, biblical, insurance, legal and duty of care responsibilities. This includes implementing the recommendations from the Anglican General Synod in relation to safer ministry as underpinned by the Diocesan Code of Conduct: Faithfulness in Service, with the intended goal that all ministries are spiritually, emotionally and physically safe.
The five key statements in our Safe Ministry policy are:
- Safe Recruitment
- Adequate Training
- Continued Supervision
- Safe Environments
- Safe to raise Concerns
We are also committed to ensuring that the collection, storage and sharing of information is consistent with legislated Privacy Principles and that information is only accessible by authorised personnel who have a valid reason for doing so.
In the event of any sexual misconduct by a church worker in the Diocese of the Northern Territory, there is a Diocesan procedure for dealing with such misconduct: in the first instance, please contact the Director of Professional Standards, Mr Greg Milles on 1800 242 544. For all other concerns relating to Safe Ministry, please contact the Safe Ministries Helpline 1800 070 511.
